Advice on the peeling, storage and application of humus soil
Estonian University of Life Sciences
Service description
Compilation of greenery and recultivation projects of towns and counties.
Providing assistance in determining the thickness of humus soil layer and its volume on the basis of soils maps, local research and other existing materials at road constructions, quarries and building sites, or at the site of any other excavation.
Finding the right place and conditions for the storage of humus soil.
Planning the use of humus soil depending on the target use of the recultivated area (field, grassland, sports field, green area etc).
Depending on the purpose of the future use of the peeled humus soil, and the soil cover and geological structure of the area that remains under excavation, the suitable thickness of the humus soil layer to be peeled will be determined and mapped. According to the storage period of the peeled humus soil the method of storage enabling to minimise the decrease of its quality will be selected. Based on the composition of the soil of the recultivated area, the depth of excavation (filling) and the further purpose of use of the area, the time of sinking preceding the covering of the smoothed area with humus soil, the number of smoothing times and necessary thickness of the humus soil will be determined.
